2023 Home Design - As epidemics and economic worries continue, the way we think about our homes in 2023 will change accordingly. The past few years have required us to confront the unfortunate local decisions made before perhaps closing or re-evaluating the sometimes blurred boundaries between work and home. We have now overcome the sins of our past and returned to our office chairs (wherever that may be) for next year's home design trends, fueled by personal and global concerns.
"We enter 2023 with a lot of uncertainty and the cost of living is a priority," explains Gemma Riberti, head of home affairs at WGSN. "So any product or place we interact with has to make sense to connect to provide more than just an object or a room."
The upcoming Maison & Objet publication "Caution!" Reflect on this idea. The exhibition's director of communications, Caroline Biros, said the launch concept for January 2023 reflects the values consumers place on "product origin, production method and company commitment". "But it also makes sense — take care of yourself," she says, citing a renewed interest in health, natural ingredients and the experience of rejuvenation. Color Trends In 2023 That Will Dominate Interior Design From Soothing To Vibrant Hues
Take light brown, brown and cream color. A cool neutral will pass for a color we dare say is '90s inspired. Farrow & Ball colourist Joa Studholme says: "There's been a shift over the past decade from more difficult gray tones to those who feel better and warmer." The designer agrees. When 1stDibs asked 880 interior designers about the most trending colors in its sixth annual trend survey, light gray received the lowest 5% vote.
This change seems to have more to do with our post-epidemic emotional state as it speaks of a darker financial future. "It will be more practical to invest in neutral, flexible and relaxing," RGerty's reasoning told WGSN. But Studholme has a different idea: "The neutrality we chose for our home reflects how we want to capture peace and optimism, enveloping the room in warmth and well-being."

It's no secret that there are gorgeous colored marbles everywhere. Tina Schnabel, an interior designer at BarlisWedlick, says it's part of a broader trend that reflects "the natural quality of materials that have been removed from all synthetic materials." While organic shapes and materials have been popular in the past, this one is more specific. Riberti calls it "high texture." What does that mean? "Increasing interest in fibers and exaggerated textures, as well as high-contrast and highly patterned grains in marble, stone and wood," explains Riberti.

Top trends to continue in 2023? The designers say it's durable, according to 1stDibs. This may not be a revelation. But earth-friendly performance will be on the rise this year, from art objects to our gardens. A-List designer Kelly Wearstler saw an evolution while working with an artist for her new online gallery. "It's exciting to see how sustainability and the natural world continue to be reflected in new works by both emerging and established talent," he says. Meanwhile, according to the company's 2023 forecast report, the search for natural sustainable gardening solutions such as "rainwater harvesting" and "drought resistant landscape" is on the rise.
Last year's maximalist 'Millennium' style is nowhere to be seen, but we'll also see layers of sculptures that are smoother than prints and patterns. Enis Karavil, Creative Director of Sanayi313 Architects Multidisciplinary Studio, says: "As we move away from minimalism and move towards more open interiors, we will talk more about the space built around works of art. Precious and collectible items". In fact, designers are advising clients to invest in sculptures this year more than any other art form 1stDibs has found.
Although Colin King's background as an interior designer and personal space designer is minimal, he has found himself adding more layers to his work for editorial and retail brands. "There's a return to maximalism, and I find that when I'm arranging things, I'm using more and more objects to create a layered feel," she says. "Grouped by similar colors or materials, I look for complementary shapes with different heights to create compositions that give a sense of comfort and a sign of life."

Expect to see greenery everywhere. Editor ELLE DECOR recently saw grass growing in homes from Paris to Woodstock as leafy furniture was showcased at the High Point Furniture Market. Farrow & Ball of Studholme points to the growing popularity of the sensuous green from paint companies such as Green Smoke, while Studio Green is a perennial favourite. Emerald took first place in the 1stDibs designer poll for the third year in a row, with sage coming in second.
As with the continued interest in sustainability, the focus on handmade products signals a shift to design with a global impact. Most of the 1stDibs designers interviewed said they will be looking for work from craft manufacturers this year. "Handmade textures are the key to celebrating art," says Riberti, referring to raw materials like clay. For this reason, he predicted that papier-mâché was a tool we would see more of. "It's light, convenient and doesn't require a lot of power," explains Riberti. “It just came to our attention. That's why we're seeing retailers and high-end brands working with it in lighting and decor, glass cabinets and table lamps, and even furniture like the work of Polina Miliou.
In the bedroom at Apparatus' New York headquarters, hand-crafted resin tables, glossy cocktail tables and moiré posters lean toward more appeal.
Details Ethereal will rule the fashion set in 2023. On Pinterest, experts predict two waves of lace, tulle, ruffles and glitter. The transparency trend will also be on display at Maison & Objet. "New transparent objects with an airy design and light colors allow us to increase the space to get away and let our minds wander as we dream," explains Biros. The designers behind TikTok are also looking for everything transparently. Briellyn Turton (@studiobrie) thinks the trend will prove itself with the onslaught of glass bricks. In his adorable video on the scene (42K really likes it), Design Daddy (@mrphoenixgrey) says that alabaster lights are going to be the next big thing.
